Nyland Pupil Referral Unit (PRU)
Nyland Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) have two classes operating over two sites. One class (Malmesbury Class) is situated on the main school site and is for pupils who have been permanently excluded from mainstream school. Malmesbury Class follow the school curriculum and pupils placed in this class will undergo assessment before returning to mainstream education or moving to Special Education.
The other class (Rainbow Class) is situated in the grounds of St Luke’s Academy and is for pupils who are at the verge of exclusion from mainstream school. Pupils in Rainbow Class are placed in the PRU for two days a week with the specific aim of preventing permanent exclusion. The class follows a curriculum designed to address challenges that are preventing them from succeeding in mainstream education with a heavy focus on Emotional Quotient (EQ).
Rainbow Class (2-day placements) Referral Process

Placements commence at the start of Term 1, 3 and 5 and last for the duration of two terms, in some circumstances an extension may be agreed by panel, but schools need to re-refer for this to be considered.
The placement panel for 2024-2025 is made up of local headteachers, representatives from Swindon Borough Council, SEMH outreach team representative and members of Nyland School staff.
